Breaking Free » Wives of Porn Addicts

Pornography has been a topic of discussion here on the MondokBlog lately. I've made a new blog friend as a result. Luke authors the Covenant Eyes Blog which I've subscribed to lately. As I've looked through the categories, I noticed one for Wives of Porn Addicts.

As a pastoral care pastor, I've done some pre-marital counseling. From time, the issue of pornography comes up. Many of the young gals think that their knight in shining armor would never dream of looking at porn on the internet or anywhere else. They are personally offended when they discover that their man might fantasize about women he can't have. I'm not excusing anybody here, but it happens. Way too often. There's almost no chance that a guy doesn't/hasn't/won't.

What do Christie Brinkley, Sara Evans and Tea Leoni all have in common? All of them are high profile celebrities. All of them have international notoriety for their physical beauty.

And all of them are / have been married to alleged porn addicts.

Often the wives of men who regularly look at porn will write to us and ask “What’s wrong with me?” This is a cutting question that is difficult to answer in the midst of a highly emotional situation. Often these women are convinced that if they were simply prettier or met a certain physical standard, their husbands wouldn’t be drawn to porn. Often women get these impressions directly from their husbands. [read the rest here]

One of the comments I receive often on our blog is that a wife feels unattractive because her husband has directly told her she needs to look more like a porn star. When I read these sort of comments I am reminded of just how far the human race has fallen.

We've come into an age when pixels, implants, and camera angles are preferred to sex with someone you love.

One of the saddest counseling sessions I ever had was with a wife whose husband was addicted to internet porn. She sat there crying while he said that it really wasn't him it was "his flesh." Counseling really didn't go far because he was never willing to admit fault. And his wife was devastated. I wept after they left my office.

Guys that tell their women that are full of bs. They are just trying to push the blame off of them. Typical male trait. Don't worry ladies, nothing is wrong with you, you just have a weak man that needs some help. Chip
