The mom and dad were driving Kalkidan to a friend's house for a daytrip when they lost control of their vehicle on snowy roads. Lisa fractured her hip and collarbone, Russ was fine, but 13-year old Kalkidan died immediately. They had poured their lives into this child--adopting her from Ethiopia when she was a young girl. She had just a few months prior finished inpatient treatment for emotional issues related to her life prior to adoption, and Lisa said their family finally felt normal after years of struggle. <br />Their whole family was gathered for a Super Bowl party, which was supposed to be a happy, carefree event. Lisa says the group was stunned to silence when the commercial air. Sucker-punched. Bandaid ripped off a raw wound.
