"Mamma's Boy"

So, while you were out to a Valentines Dinner with your lovely significant other, I was preaching down at the Eureka Rescue Mission which is what someone does from our church does every Thursday night. A Bible study/gospel message is presented every night before dinner is served down there. My talk tonight was from the Gospel of Luke, chapter 10 - the story of the Good Samaritan.

As if the Good Samaritan wasn't a tough enough subject for, you know, homeless guys, one of them decided to heckle me. "Get a haircut," he says. I'm bald so I'm an easy target for the really creative heckler. Then he asked for my shirt which I was willing to give him if he still wanted it after I got done talking. He came up after I was done, but only to call me a mamma's boy. So I forgot to give him my shirt. It was actually pretty funny.

Homeless dudes just don't fake their feelings about preachers. It's kind of refreshing to really know what people think about you.

How about you? Do you really want to know what people think about you, or would you rather people hold back a little? How thick is your skin?

My motto regarding this comes from an old pop song... "Tell me lies, Tell me lies, Tell me sweet little lies..." :)

I could care less what people think.

My skin? Thick? Hmmmm, like a newborn baby rhinocerous. Sooo, can't I choose somewhere in between the homeless guy and outright fabrication? If not, I'm with Luann!

If it's a truth I need to hear and is spoken in a spirit of love--as opposed to the lip service/lie, as in "I'm only telling you this for your own good [and because I can't wait to cut you to the quick!]"--then I will hear it. Hardly ever with joy and gladness, unless, of course, it's positive from the start, but I will hear it. Words thrown at me in anger, no. I revert to my original-issue thin skin.
